We have lived in our home for over 5 years now. We bought your token "fixer upper" and I have sort of designed my living room like 2-3 different times. Nothing has ever really felt quite right. Wall color was too dark, curtains were to red, etc. The room, due to the lack of large windows has always felt a little dark in general. This time I went boring and light on the paint color with a historical cream color. Brightened up the room immediately. About a week ago, I was at Target and found this pillow (in front) and the color palette of the room was finally clear to me.
You know it feels pretty good to whip up stuff for your own home. This living room had an abundance of sewing of throw pillows done. My hubby and I butt heads because he hates all the mixing of patterns. I tell him he doesn't know what he's talking about. I think he knows that his opinion in this area really doesn't matter :)
See that little "&" sign on the wall. He thinks it stupid; chuckled at the golden yellow bird I found. We don't always have to agree. He does, however, love the color gray so I was glad to use that in most of the room. Kept it neutral with pops of color. I've still got to put up some picture frames and add photos to the empty teal ones in the corner. Trust me when I say this is the most complete our living room has been since we moved it. It feels nice.
As you can tell, Zoe the cat just loves this room. It's so peaceful. In case you are wondering, that button "H" in the background was a total Pinterest Success. (Speaking of Pinterest. FOLLOW ME) Lots of hot glue because this lady likes to sew but not 30+ buttons on flimsy fabric. The yellow damask pillow was a great fabric find. It was $3.49 a yard of home decor fabric at Hancock that was 80% off. I'm never that lucky so my fabric hording self bought 2 yards. In case I need it for SOMETHING in the future. So as you can see, this girl does use her crafty skills in her house. Finally!
Though I spend my days doing applique and embroidery, I am trying to find the time to dabble in some of my other passions.
